Set Design

Locations and environments can bring a costume to life. But when the perfect location isn’t already available, set design can complete the job. Here are various examples of indoor photo environments I have created to serve as photography sets.

Hogwarts

This set re-used and improved upon the cathedral wall I had built several months before. Instead of being a freestanding element, the cathedral wall was mounted onto a real wall to imply more dimension. LEDs inside the window frame can illuminate the panel with different colors to create mood. For this photo set, we chose a cool blue tone to imply a night sky outside.

The Stained Glass Window

I built the stained glass window in 2018. Using a cathedral mirror frame as the base, I replaced the actual mirror with a clear sheet of frosted plastic. All of the “stained glass” designs were hand-painted with Plaid’s Gallery Glass paint.

The faux walls were built from pink insulation foam covered in a stone pattern wallpaper. Because of the weight of the frame, it had to be mounted onto a wooden stand, which was incorporated into the fake walls. Faux ivy, grass, and flowers were added to complete the look.

Flower wall

The flower wall was my first custom photo backdrop. Originally built to compliment my Aerith Gainsborough cosplay, the flower wall has been used for a huge variety of personal and product photos.
