RoroLina Frixell
Made in 2014, Rorona was my first complex project and it presented a variety of technical challenges. It is completely handmade, down to the pleated trim on each piece. I also built this staff prop myself.

Making Of
This costume was built for competition, so I wanted to handle every detail myself. This is completely handmade, primarily from my own patterns. I draped the dress and cape and used a modified commercial pattern for the jacket.
The dress is composed of upholstery vinyl chosen for its sheen. The jacket is made of matte satin with a synthetic dupioni lining and linen-look cuffs. The pink capelet fabric was dyed to match the jacket. I hand-cut the upper capelet trim from satin acetate using a heat knife to seal the edges.
All of the accessories, such as the bottles on her belt and necklace, were hand-cast and wired with LEDs. I molded lightbulbs to create the shape, then roto-cast the bulbs in tinted resin to create hollow shells for this costume.
The hat is also handmade. I used carved foam and apoxie sculpt to create the various hat designs, and constructed the hat out of leftover fabric and batting for structure.
This costume was part of a group that won Best Craftsmanship at Oni-con 2013.
